ABOUT JT BLUES

“JTBlues” is the nom de musicien of John “JT” Thompson, an inimitable fixture in the central Pennsylvania music scene. You may have seen him as the keyboard player in one of the various groups he performs with, or as a soloist, perhaps playing gentle music in the background during dinner, or rocking out as The One-Man Piano Band.

Influenced by great piano players like Dr. John, Ann Rabson, Professor Longhair, and Bill Payne, JT’s style is rooted in the Blues, but his repertoire encompasses much more than that.

He’s released two albums of music, “Chase Away Your Blues” and “This Way That Way,” has been a Jamarama host on the Legendary Blues Cruise, and a
finalist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennesseee

ABOUT ANDY TOLINS

Andy Tolins is an award-winning guitarist, songwriter, and singer. His repertoire includes bluegrass, celtic, blues, rock & roll, and swing. Tolins sings and arranges both his own tunes and traditional fiddle tunes, blues, and other roots-oriented music. He plays guitars, National steel, mandolin, and dobro, and technique has earned him a reputation as a fine soloist. He arranges and produces both his music and that of other musicians as well.

Tolins also leads both the Triple A Blues Band and the Tolins' Bluegrass Revue. Triple A's debut CD,   Highwater, earned Billboard/Musician Magazine's Best Unsigned Band Competition. The quintet is a powerhouse of urban and country blues, featuring Tolins' vocals and steel and electric guitars, accompanied by organ, piano, and wailing harmonica. The band released Pork Chop Money, their second CD, and are working on a new project now.

On Orval Day, devotees of Orval Trappist Ale – and some folks who maybe have not tried it yet – convene to celebrate one of the world’s unique and highly-respected beers.

Orval Trappist Ale was the first Brett beer to land on US shores, and has become the favorite beer for many star American brewers. ( “Brett” – brettanomyces – is a yeast variety that adds appetizing, sharp acidity and dryness.) Orval is brewed to exquisite perfection within the walls of Notre Dame d’Orval Monastery in Belgium. It’s delicious when it leaves the brewery, but also evolves in the bottle for five years or more.

We are thrilled to announce the first installment of our Study Hall series. To kick things off we are celebrating the rich heritage of Irish whiskey in honor of St Patrick’s Day!

From pot still to triple distillation, guests will explore the diverse techniques that make Irish whiskey. FARMER, HARAN, & RUSNOCK features local musicians Eric Ian Farmer (voice/acoustic guitar), Murali Haran (tabla), Sophie Augusta Rusnock (harp), and special guest vocalist Frances Blanchette.

 Murali Haran, tabla player from India and statistics professor, brings with him a performance background that has been almost exclusively in South Asian classical music.

 Sophie Augusta Rusnock, pedal harp player from Canada and traveling pharmacist, brings with her a background largely in European classical and folk music.

Frances Blanchette, educator and linguist from Massachusetts, will season the performance with a cameo on vocals.

 FARMER, HARAN, & RUSNOCK draw largely from the catalog of Eric Ian Farmer, Centre County-born singer/songwriter and educator, alongside group-crafted originals as well as interpretations of pop and folk songs.

ABOUT ERIC IAN FARMER

Born in State College, Pennsylvania and raised in North Carolina, Eric Ian Farmer, a Black man with Blackfeet and Cherokee heritage, has returned to his birthplace sharing his songs about relationships, social awareness, and finding one's path in life while keeping alive classics by artists like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and Bill Withers. Eric learned the practice of becoming one with a song from Bonnie Carter and David Williams, singers in the church of his childhood just across the North Carolina state line in Danville, Virginia. A bass in tenor's clothing, Eric also draws inspiration as a singer from popular artists like Bobby McFerrin, Stevie Wonder, and Jimmy Hayes (The Persuasions). And his guitar playing is inspired by the percussive stylings of rock legend Bo Diddley.

Eric has opened or played pre-shows for the Soweto Gospel Choir, Bettye LaVette, Charly Lowry, Luciane Dom, and Rusted Root; performed at Musikfest (Bethlehem PA); and served on the faculty at Folk College (Juniata College, Huntingdon PA).

Eric completed his doctorate in Penn State University's College of Education. You sometimes can find him in classrooms singing songs and talking with young folks about songwriting and issues related to identity.

ABOUT RONNIE BURRAGE

Ronnie Burrage is a world-renowned percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and producer. Currently serving as a professor at CUNY Brooklyn College, he is recognized as one of the finest jazz musicians on the international scene today, with an extensive discography spanning over 170 recordings.

Ronnie Burrage has performed with an impressive roster of jazz legends, including Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Cedar Walton , Woody Shaw, McCoy Tyner, Pepper Adams, Sonny Rollins, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Sonny Fortune, Krakow Symphony, London Philharmonic. The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and more.

ABOUT BENITO GONZALES

Benito Gonzales is a 2x Grammy Awards Nominee puniest and producer who won the 2005 Great America Jazz Piano Competition and was honored in 2020 to be a Steinway & Sons artist for “his sound [that] is recognizable for the powerful rhythm section and Afro-Latin patterns he prioritizes across his projects.” The Venezuela-born, New York-based artist grew up playing traditional Venezuelan folk music with his family before absorbing the inventiveness of such pianists as Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner,Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett who inspired him to join in the explorations on the instrument.

Gonzalez made his way to U.S. to play shows with Ghanaian master drummer Okyerema sante that led to a recording. “After my first six months here, I decided to stay in this country to learn the music right,” Gonzalez said. Gonzalez went on to play with Jackie McLean in 2003, then joined Kenny Garrett’s quartet for seven years until 2013—during which time he garnered two Grammy band nominations. After his stint with Garrett, he played with saxophonist Azar Lawrence’s band and then in 2019 joined saxophone legend Pharoah Sanders as his pianist/musical director.

Through the course of his career, Gonzalez has been instrumental as a sideman in performing and recording with such jazz greats as Bobby Hutcherson, Dave Liebman, Gary Bartz, Curtis Fuller, Al Foster, Lenny White, Billy Hart, Ignacio Berroa, Jeff”Tain”Watts, Buster Williams, Rene McLean, Steve Turre, Delfeayo Marsalis, Hamiet Bluiett, Ron Blake, Antonio Sanchez, Mark Gross, and Azar Lawrence.

Gonzalez also recorded his own albums, including Starting Point (2004) and Circles (2010), then continued his solo career with Dream Rhapsody (2015) with Slavic flutist/vocalist Sisa Michalidesová, and a loving tribute to McCoy Tyner Passion Reverence Transcendence (2018).

With propulsive pulse and Afro-Latin percussive drive, Gonzalez placed rhythm at the core of 2021’s Sing to the World, his fifth album and first released on the St. Petersburg, Russia label Rainy Days Records. He assembled an impressive team of collaborators, including Christian McBride, Essiet Okon Essiet, Jeff “Tain” Watts, and Nicholas Payton as well as rising stars Russian drummer Sasha Mashin, trumpeter Josh Evans.

In addition to his slow-to-upbeat originals, Gonzalez added to the set list two compositions that had never been recorded by their composers: Roy Hargrove’s soulful “Father” and the “Tain” beauty “416.” After almost seven years of touring with Kenny Garrett, Benito has added numerous festivals and international jazz club dates to his credit. In 2019 he joined legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders as pianist and musical director.

ABOUT YUTO KANAZAWA

Yuto Kanazawa is a genre-blending Japanese jazz guitarist based in NYC. Born in Tokyo in 1986, his musical journey began at age three with Yamaha Music School, where he studied basic reading/rhtyhms and keyboards. His next-door neighbor, flamenco guitar luthier Mr. Sato, would occasioanlly tune guitars late at night—mysterious sounds that would later shape Yuto’s path.

 At age ten, Yuto’s family moved to Fukushima. There, he discovered his father’s classical guitar in the attic and began playing Japanese pop and rock, eventually delving into heavy metal during his teenage years. In the absence of local guitar teachers, he taught himself through tablature, VHS tapes, and DVDs.

 After high school, Yuto attended the Koyo Conservatory in Kobe, studying jazz—particularly under guitarist Hiroshi Tsuchino and pianist the late Masako Hamamura—and taking masterclasses with guitarists Mike Stern and Allen Hinds. He soon began gigging regularly, performing with a variety of groups, including a jazz band with now-renowned ambient pianist Hideyuki Hashimoto, a Beatles cover band, jazz duos, and organ trios.

 In 2007, Yuto moved to the United States to attend Berklee College of Music, where he was mentored by guitarists Mick Goodrick, Tim Miller, and trombonists Hal Crook and Phil Wilson. While there, he formed a band with bassist Zwelakhe Duma Bell le Pere and drummer Jonathan Pinson, performing regularly at a local bowling lounge. In 2012, they recorded his debut album Earthwards with Norwegian clarinetist Felix Peikli, Puerto Rican saxophonist Mario Castro, and Grammy-winning vocalist Kurt Elling, released on Interrobang Records.

 Since then, Yuto has released more than ten albums as a leader/co-leader, won the International Songwriting Competition in the Jazz category, and been a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He has signed with Universal Music Group’s UNXT (now under Virgin Music Group) as well as Japanese label Apollo Sounds.

 During the pandemic, Yuto returned to classical guitar and rekindled his passion for flamenco, now performing with Barcelona-born flamenco dancer and actress Paloma de Vega. He also began releasing bolero solo guitar recordings on Spotify, where his music has been streamed over three million times worldwide. In parallel, he became a prominent jazz guitar influencer, building an Instagram following of over 100,000.

 Yuto has toured internationally in Japan, Korea, the U.S., Mexico, and Guatemala, and performed at iconic NYC venues such as Blue Note, B.B. King’s Blues Club, Fat Cat, Cleopatra’s Needle, Bar Next Door, Red Lion, Smalls Jazz Club, Arthur’s Tavern and Ornithology Jazz Club. He currently co-leads the Woodsiders Collective and hosts a weekly jam session at Chowk NYC.

 Other current projects include No Day But Today, a duo with Japanese vocalist Jun Izumi covering Pat Metheny songs; a weekly solo guitar residency at the Marriott Vacation Hotel; In the Future, a cutting-edge jazz/post-punk–infused band with keyboardist Andrew McGowan and vocalist Melanie Giselle; and regular performances with the Kyoko Oyobe Band at Cellar Dog NYC.

Yuto also joined to the legendary drummer Ronnie Burrage’s Holographic Principle band in 2025 performing with Lonnie Plaxico, Bryan Carrot, Darryl Yokley, Ahmed McLemore, and Luca Mendoza. 

 Over the years, Yuto has also recorded with Grammy-winning bassist Lonnie Plaxico, Kaleta (Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80), Mike Mitchell, Takeshi Ohbayashi, Chris Parker, Lafayette Harris, Bikki Gurung, Myungsup Shin, Hoo Kim, KyuMin Shim, Hironori Momoi, Ilya Dynov, Ai Ichikawa, Goro Katano, Rina Komai, Takafumi Nikaido, Yuto Mitomi, Luis Sigüenza, Justus Heher, Diego Diaz and Sunnyside Electric band, and has performed with acclaimed artists including Kuni Mikami, Ruben Rodriguez, Steve Davis, Stacy Dillard, Ed Cherry, Joe Dyson, Tomoko Ohmura, Takuya Kuroda, J.K Kim, Petros Klampanis, Julian Shore, Jonathan Barber, Rogério Boccato, Ron McClure, Mike Whitfield Jr., Roberto Giaquinto, Gregg Errico and Jerry Martini (Sly & The Family Stone), Randy Jackson (Zebra), and Tony Machine (New York Dolls) to name a few.

ABOUT MIKE BOONE

Mike Boone is a Philadelphia Jazz Bassist and educator at Temple University. Boone was born in New York City and started taking piano lessons at the age of eight at the New York Schools of Music; then he attended the High School of Music and Arts, where he started studying upright classical bass. After that, Mike attended Eastman School of Music, studying with Oscar Zimmerman and James Van Demark. He went on the road with singer/dancer Ben Vereen in his junior year and returned to school to graduate in 1979. Mike went on the road with the Buddy Rich Big Band in 1982 and moved to Philadelphia in 1983, where he began a collaboration with trumpeter, Jeff Tyzik, recording several albums and touring.  He went back on the road with Buddy Rich until 1986 when he settled in Philadelphia permanently and played with luminaries such as saxophonist Tony Williams, pianist Trudy Pitts, and trumpeter John Swana, pianist Shirley Scott, drummer Mickey Roker, and pianists Eddie Green and Uri Caine.

In 1994, Mike was hired to play in the notable sessions at Ortliebs' Jazz Haus for the famous Tuesday night house band with pianist Sid Simmons, and drummer Byron Landham. The trio was featured weekly for over 16 years, until the establishment was sold. Mike's first CD "Better Late Than Never" came out on the Dreambox label in 1994, with trumpeter John Swana. Mike Boone's second CD "Old Heads" came out in 1998 and he began teaching at Cheyney State that same year. In 2000, Mike co-produced a double album of Philadelphia notable jazz players at Ortliebs' Jazz Haus and produced a series of filmed historical interviews with jazz musicians Orrin Evans, Darryl Hall, Rob Landham, Alison Crockett, and Rodney Green. From 2003-2010, Mike taught at the Kimmel Center summer program for middle and high school students , teaching bass and small ensembles. He joined the faculty at Temple University, in 2005, as an Adjunct Professor of Jazz (Bass) and is still on Faculty. Frequently, Mike tours with Ben Vereen and Jazz Organist, Joey DeFrancesco.

ABOUT ANCHOR&ARROW

Anchor&Arrow is the musical collaboration of husband and wife, Matt Dashem and Jennifer Henry-Dashem. Their unique sound is an upbeat mix of soul, funk, rock, and jazz: a culmination of many years of their individual musical styles and experience. The pair has been deemed Happy Valley’s FUNked-Up duo: A two person band with a whole lotta sound!

Jenn’s moving voice fused with Matt’s seasoned guitar can be enjoyed by music lovers of all kinds, but especially those fond of having a good time. Jenn and Matt combine their decades of experience and styles into this wildly fun project. They never take themselves too seriously, while packing high energy and a banging good time into their live performances.

The duo is known for putting their own twists on familiar tunes; blending styles and swapping genres with ease and originality. While they cover feel good music from the ‘70s to modern day songs that make you wanna move, their first love is creating their own music. Anchor&Arrow’s all-original EP, Jumble, can be streamed on Spotify and most other streaming platforms.

ABOUT BIRD & BARD

Bird and Bard is the singing duo of Robin Tuttle and Laurence B. Boggess. Formed in 2024 for a special concert presentation of Joni Mitchell’s Blue album and other Joni songs, Robin and Larry have expanded their repertoire to include female singer-songwriters and acoustic takes on modern and classic pop, rock, soul, and country songs. Their history together goes back to 2001 when Robin was a student at State College Friends School and Larry was the principal who led the school’s choral singing group in which Robin performed. Bird and Bard share a deep musical connection and an engaging presence designed to lift the spirit.

Robin Tuttle has been singing in State College since 2012 when she fronted the Nightcrawlers until 2015 when she hung up her microphone to go to graduate school. Now a physician assistant (PA) in pulmonary medicine and mother of two beautiful boys, Robin enjoys a wide range of music and styles and is the chief architect of Bird and Bard's songlist. Her singing is powerful, emotive, endearing, and inspiring. 

Larry Boggess is a musician, singer, and songwriter with over six decades of experience in bands, acoustic projects, and educational presentations on music and American culture. He most recently worked with Miss Melanie’s acoustic neo-soul, Kick the Footlights classic country, Grandma Ben’s Dark Americana, and the songwriting collaborative TuneSmith. A kid from Jersey, he has lived all over the east coast, New England, the Midwest, Nashville, State College, and now Philadelphia.

ABOUT ELIZABETH WEBB

A local to Centre County, PA, Elizabeth has been performing professionally for over 15 years. Her love of music started as a toddler, and she hasn’t stopped singing since!

Elizabeth made her New York City debut in March 2019, performing at Birdland Theatre in Manhattan, The Triad Theatre in Manhattan, and has returned to Birdland many times since then including as a featured soloist in THE LINEUP: Broadway’s Variety Show!. Her musical partnership with noted jazz pianist John Colianni and his bands has resulted in several recordings of jazz standards and mainstage performances.

During her college years, Elizabeth toured Ireland, England, Austria, Wales, Slovenia, and Italy with the Mansfield University Concert Choir and Mansfieldians Vocal Jazz Group. She also had the honor of studying with Peter Eldridge of The New York Voices and jazz writer and educator Phil Matson.

Besides performing, Elizabeth also has a passion for teaching. In 2023, Elizabeth joined the faculty at Penn State University as an adjunct Vocal Jazz Professor. She also owns a highly sought after private music studio which was established in 2011. It is based in Bellefonte and Snow Shoe, PA - teaching private voice lessons, piano lessons, music theory, and composition. Teaching styles: classical, jazz, music theatre, pop.

Currently, Elizabeth is the head composer of a project that is green- lighted by Netflix for an upcoming documentary, in association with Cross Creek Pictures.

ABOUT JOSHUA DAVIS

Joshua Davis was appointed as the Director of Jazz Studies in Fall 2022. Dr. Davis joined the Penn State music faculty in 2018 as a lecturer teaching classical and jazz double bass and ensembles. Prior to his appointment, he was the Director of Jazz Studies at Susquehanna University (2006–2018) and at Towson University (2002–06). Before Towson, he was an awarded leader of curriculum development at Berklee College of Music where, as one of the youngest faculty members, he taught for six years. Joshua spent two years as a member of the faculty at the University of Maine at Augusta and has taught numerous performance skills clinics at USC, Berklee, Koyo Conservatory in Kobe, Japan, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, and various schools of all grades throughout the United States. MENC-affiliate work includes Maryland All-State Solo/Chamber adjudication, directing a District Jazz Ensemble (Tunkhannock, Pa.), and conference presentations about improvisation and other jazz performance skills at MMEA (MD), PMEA (PA), MD All-State Jazz, and VMEA (VT).

Internationally-acclaimed performances include concerts at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the National Concert Hall in Taiwan, Lincoln Center, Meyerhoff, the Blue Note Jakarta, Bimhuis Amsterdam, and Strathmore Hall. Internationally-recognized performances include televised concerts in Turkey with Randy Brecker, Sean Rickman, and Timucin Sahin, a U.S. Dept. of State-sponsored Armenia concert with Jerry Bergonzi and Vardan Ovsepian, and numerous other concerts with The Ritz, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Four Freshmen, Tim Miller, Ben Monder, Peter Erskine, Mark Ferber, Jordan Perlson, Sean Rickman, Marcello Pellitteri, Dan Weiss, Ted Poor, Ari Hoenig, Ole Mathisen, Jerry Bergonzi, Donny McCaslin, Taylor Haskins, Dave Ballou, Greg Hopkins, JD Walter, and many others.

Composer

Boho, released on streaming services globally in 2023, and Known Garden, his 2009 CD, feature Joshua’s compositions played by contemporary jazz performers. Squashua, Joshua’s first feature recording as a leader, showcases his arrangements of Romantic Era symphonies and the music of Sting.

Pictures of Your Next Decision, Joshua’s commission for orchestra and double bass solo, premiered in November 2018 with the West Shore Symphony Orchestra in Camp Hill, Pa. Other commissions include Overflow and Convergent Mirrors, a one-hour program for Artichoke Dance Company’s concert series featuring double bass improvisation and Ableton Live, R Trainversations, a choral work for Bella Voce Singers, and Partita Reflections, a four-movement contemporary reflection on Bach’s B minor Partita for Solo Violin, featuring improvising double bass and violin.

ABOUT MACKINLAY HIMES

MacKinlay Himes has been both a performing jazz guitarist and guitar teacher for over 15 years in the central Pennsylvania area.  He has most notably played in the Rick Hirsch 4 and the Dan Yoder Quartet as well as his own trio.  Mac is a Ph.D. candidate in Music Education at the Penn State School of Music.  He received a Masters in music composition from Penn State and B.A. in music from John’s Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute.  Mac has also been a faculty member at the School of Music for 10 years directing jazz ensembles, teaching jazz guitar as well as an online jazz history course and guitar methods. Himes also teaches guitar at The Music Academy in State College, PA.

Hailing from Brazil, Pepe Barcellos has performed with Eric Ian Farmer on stages around Pennsylvania including at Musikfest. And Eric has performed with Venuezuelan vocalist Naty Martinez both as a duo and as singers in a local Latin band, Orquesta Mi Amor.  This event will be these artists' first time performing together!  A mashup of the Americas, the evening will feature songs in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. 

ABOUT ERIC IAN FARMER

Born in State College, Pennsylvania and raised in North Carolina, Eric Ian Farmer, a Black man with Blackfeet and Cherokee heritage, has returned to his birthplace sharing his songs about relationships, social awareness, and finding one's path in life while keeping alive classics by artists like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and Bill Withers. Eric learned the practice of becoming one with a song from Bonnie Carter and David Williams, singers in the church of his childhood just across the North Carolina state line in Danville, Virginia. A bass in tenor's clothing, Eric also draws inspiration as a singer from popular artists like Bobby McFerrin, Stevie Wonder, and Jimmy Hayes (The Persuasions). And his guitar playing is inspired by the percussive stylings of rock legend Bo Diddley.

Eric has opened or played pre-shows for the Soweto Gospel Choir, Bettye LaVette, Charly Lowry, Luciane Dom, and Rusted Root; performed at Musikfest (Bethlehem PA); and served on the faculty at Folk College (Juniata College, Huntingdon PA).

Eric completed his doctorate in Penn State University's College of Education. You sometimes can find him in classrooms singing songs and talking with young folks about songwriting and issues related to identity.

ABOUT PEPE BARCELLOS

Brazilian guitarist, composer, and music educator Dr. Barcellos is an expert on musical creativity, songwriting, popular music, and arts-based research. He has released two albums of original songs, composed music for film, theatre, dance, and animation, and published and presented music education research in international and national venues. A well-known music educator, he has taught at The British School in Rio for 8 years, at Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro for 4 years, and at Atlanta International School for 4 years. In 2017, Barcellos spearheaded a captivating flash mob at Southside shopping mall in London, where he rehearsed and conducted 50 children through a groundbreaking performance of “Cidade Maravilhosa,” a classic Brazilian carnival march available here.

In 2015, he was an artist resident at World Heartbeat Music Academy, where he performed with a group of young British musicians at the Speaker’s House in the House of Commons, The All England’s Tennis Club, and at the Brazilian Embassy in London. For the last 20 years, he has traveled the world leading Brazilian music workshops. France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, the United Kingdom, Bermuda, and the USA are some of the places where he has facilitated innovative, interactive workshops, creating fun, memorable experiences for the students.

At Penn State, Dr. Barcellos teaches undergraduate and graduate music education courses, philosophy of music education, and songwriting, among others. His ultimate goal is to provide authentic music experiences to foster students’ musical understanding, sharing his passion and knowledge to support student growth.

ABOUT NATY MARTINEZ

Naty Martinez is a 20-something Venezuelan musician living in State College. She comes from a family of singers and percussionists who have helped her develop her skills as a singer and have shaped her passion for music. After years of trying different genres and performing in many places around the State College area, she has cultivated a style that reflects a mix of traditional Latin music and her love for jazz and R&B.

ABOUT ANCHOR&ARROW

Anchor&Arrow is the musical collaboration of husband and wife, Matt Dashem and Jennifer Henry-Dashem. Their unique sound is an upbeat mix of soul, funk, rock, and jazz: a culmination of many years of their individual musical styles and experience. The pair has been deemed Happy Valley’s FUNked-Up duo: A two person band with a whole lotta sound!

Jenn’s moving voice fused with Matt’s seasoned guitar can be enjoyed by music lovers of all kinds, but especially those fond of having a good time. Jenn and Matt combine their decades of experience and styles into this wildly fun project. They never take themselves too seriously, while packing high energy and a banging good time into their live performances.

The duo is known for putting their own twists on familiar tunes; blending styles and swapping genres with ease and originality. While they cover feel good music from the ‘70s to modern day songs that make you wanna move, their first love is creating their own music. (2) A nitrogonized keg of of Nugget Nectar. (3) A keg of Double Nugget, and finally… the O.G. (4) a keg of good old Nugget Nectar!!!

In addition to all those Nuggs, we'll have selections from a few other Tröegs series available on draft for the night, just for good measure.

To keep the vibes right, we're bringing in DJs TimmyTatts & Gingerman sinning an all vinyl set of early Reggae on our hifi system!

Tröegs will be in house with a few swag giveaways while supplies last and happy to answer any questions and talk all things Tröegs and good times.

ABOUT JT BLUES

“JTBlues” is the nom de musicien of John “JT” Thompson, an inimitable fixture in the central Pennsylvania music scene. You may have seen him as the keyboard player in one of the various groups he performs with, or as a soloist, perhaps playing gentle music in the background during dinner, or rocking out as The One-Man Piano Band.

Influenced by great piano players like Dr. John, Ann Rabson, Professor Longhair, and Bill Payne, JT’s style is rooted in the Blues, but his repertoire encompasses much more than that.

He’s released two albums of music, “Chase Away Your Blues” and “This Way That Way,” has been a Jamarama host on the Legendary Blues Cruise, and a
finalist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennesseee

ABOUT ANDY TOLINS

Andy Tolins is an award-winning guitarist, songwriter, and singer. His repertoire includes bluegrass, celtic, blues, rock & roll, and swing. Tolins sings and arranges both his own tunes and traditional fiddle tunes, blues, and other roots-oriented music. He plays guitars, National steel, mandolin, and dobro, and technique has earned him a reputation as a fine soloist. He arranges and produces both his music and that of other musicians as well.

Tolins also leads both the Triple A Blues Band and the Tolins' Bluegrass Revue. Triple A's debut CD,   Highwater, earned Billboard/Musician Magazine's Best Unsigned Band Competition. The quintet is a powerhouse of urban and country blues, featuring Tolins' vocals and steel and electric guitars, accompanied by organ, piano, and wailing harmonica. The band released Pork Chop Money, their second CD, and are working on a new project now.

ABOUT ANCHOR&ARROW

Anchor&Arrow is the musical collaboration of husband and wife, Matt Dashem and Jennifer Henry-Dashem. Their unique sound is an upbeat mix of soul, funk, rock, and jazz: a culmination of many years of their individual musical styles and experience. The pair has been deemed Happy Valley’s FUNked-Up duo: A two person band with a whole lotta sound!

Jenn’s moving voice fused with Matt’s seasoned guitar can be enjoyed by music lovers of all kinds, but especially those fond of having a good time. Jenn and Matt combine their decades of experience and styles into this wildly fun project. They never take themselves too seriously, while packing high energy and a banging good time into their live performances.

In their Alla Spina debut, the trio blends cultures, languages, countries, and music sensibilities for an evening that grooves with vibrations from the US and Brazil.  

Elizabeth's caramel vocals intertwine with Pepe's tenor and Eric's baritone while the guitars -- Eric's steel-string and Pepe's nylon-string -- play in complement.     

Although not a “holiday” music-themed performance, the set will include original music and interpretations of popular songs about peace, family, coming home, and more.

ABOUT ERIC IAN FARMER

Born in State College, Pennsylvania and raised in North Carolina, Eric Ian Farmer, a Black man with Blackfeet and Cherokee heritage, has returned to his birthplace sharing his songs about relationships, social awareness, and finding one's path in life while keeping alive classics by artists like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and Bob Marley.  Eric learned the practice of becoming one with a song from Bonnie Carter and David Williams, singers in the church of his childhood just across the North Carolina state line in Danville, Virginia.  A bass in tenor's clothing, Eric also draws inspiration as a singer from popular artists like Bobby McFerrin, Stevie Wonder, and Jimmy Hayes (The Persuasions).  And his guitar playing is inspired by the percussive stylings of rock legend Bo Diddley.

Eric has opened or played pre-shows for the Soweto Gospel Choir, Bettye LaVette, Luciane Dom (Brazil), and Rusted Root; performed at Musikfest (Bethlehem, PA); and served on the faculty at Folk College (Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA). 

Eric completed his doctorate in Penn State University's College of Education.  You sometimes can find him in classrooms singing songs and talking with young folks about songwriting and issues related to identity.

ABOUT LUIZ “PEPE” BARCELLOS

Brazilian guitarist, composer, and music educator Dr. Barcellos is an expert on musical creativity, songwriting, popular music, and arts-based research. He has released two albums of original songs, composed music for film, theatre, dance, and animation, and published and presented music education research in international and national venues. A well-known music educator, he has taught at The British School in Rio for 8 years, at Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro for 4 years, and at Atlanta International School for 4 years. In 2017, Barcellos spearheaded a captivating flash mob at Southside shopping mall in London, where he rehearsed and conducted 50 children through a groundbreaking performance of “Cidade Maravilhosa,” a classic Brazilian carnival march available here.

In 2015, he was an artist resident at World Heartbeat Music Academy, where he performed with a group of young British musicians at the Speaker’s House in the House of Commons, The All England’s Tennis Club, and at the Brazilian Embassy in London. For the last 20 years, he has traveled the world leading Brazilian music workshops. France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, the United Kingdom, Bermuda, and the USA are some of the places where he has facilitated innovative, interactive workshops, creating fun, memorable experiences for the students.

At Penn State, Dr. Barcellos teaches undergraduate and graduate music education courses, philosophy of music education, and songwriting, among others. His ultimate goal is to provide authentic music experiences to foster students’ musical understanding, sharing his passion and knowledge to support student growth.

ABOUT ELIZABETH WEBB

A local to Centre County, PA, Elizabeth has been performing professionally for over a decade. In addition to her work with many world renowned artists, she also has appeared at Jazz at the Palmer, Jazz in the Attic at the State Theatre, Pine Grove Hall, and with the Zeropoint Big Band and the Rick Hirsch Quartet.
Elizabeth made her New York City debut in March 2019, performing at Birdland Theatre in Manhattan, The Triad Theatre in Manhattan, and has returned to Birdland many times since then including as a featured soloist in THE LINEUP: Broadway’s Variety Show!. Her musical partnership with noted jazz pianist John Colianni and his bands has resulted in several recordings of jazz standards and a mainstage performance at the State Theatre in June 2022. 

Elizabeth has also toured Ireland, England, Austria, Wales, Slovenia, and Italy with the Mansfield University Concert Choir and Mansfieldians Vocal Jazz Group. I've also had the honor of studying with Peter Eldridge of The New York Voices and jazz writer and educator Phil Matson.

Besides performing, Elizabeth also has a passion for teaching. Her private music studio is based in Bellefonte, PA- teaching private voice and piano lessons. Teaching styles: classical, jazz, music theatre.

We are thrilled to host a very special evening of music and storytelling with Natalie Race and Kate Anderson Twoey, “The Girls” of Pure Cane Sugar supported by percussionist Daryl Branford. This festive evening welcomes Natalie back to State College for a brief visit and a memorable night of music, artistry, friendship…. and a few glasses of wine. ABOUT ANCHOR&ARROW

Anchor&Arrow is the musical collaboration of husband and wife, Matt Dashem and Jennifer Henry-Dashem. Their unique sound is an upbeat mix of soul, funk, rock, and jazz: a culmination of many years of their individual musical styles and experience. The pair has been deemed Happy Valley’s FUNked-Up duo: A two person band with a whole lotta sound!

Jenn’s moving voice fused with Matt’s seasoned guitar can be enjoyed by music lovers of all kinds, but especially those fond of having a good time. Jenn and Matt combine their decades of experience and styles into this wildly fun project. They never take themselves too seriously, while packing high energy and a banging good time into their live performances.

The duo is known for putting their own twists on familiar tunes; blending styles and swapping genres with ease and originality. While they cover feel good music from the ‘70s to modern day songs that make you wanna move, their first love is creating their own music. ABOUT TRöEGS INDEPENDENT BREWING

Founded in Pennsylvania in 1997 by brothers John and Chris Trogner, Tröegs is driven by a sense of adventure and curiosity.

You might know their Perpetual IPA, the best-selling IPA in Pennsylvania. Or the dark, malty and crisp Tröegenator. Maybe you’ve tried one of the hundreds of experimental Scratch Series beers they’ve brewed at one of our events together. Or taken the “Best Brewery Tour in America” down at their Hershey, PA home (if you haven’t what are you waiting for?)

Over the past 25 years, Tröegs has grown from two brothers to 250 people, but they’re still very much a family business.
