Introducing Detroit Style Pizza
We have been working for a few months now on getting it right. Pizza is our craft and we take it seriously. This style has been a Motor City secret since the 1940s and like everything else, there is a lot of fake news out there on how to make it, at least authentically. We did the homework. We followed with many test batches while taking notes, then we did more homework, and more test batches, and…. well, you get the picture. We are close and we are ready to share our results with you.
This thick, but yet, light-crusted, red-topped rockstar starts with a house-made-from-scratch specialty dough that’s created at our very own HiWay commissary in the wee hours of the morning. Like many of our specialty doughs, it is days in the making. When it’s ready (and only then) it’s married with a 10x14 hard-anodized specialty pan, where the magic continues to happen. From there, the pans make their journey to our HiWay WEST location bright and early every Thursday morning awaiting their time to shine.
Topped with our signature HiWay pepperoni first, authentic 100% Wisconsin Brick cheese next and lining it with two zesty red sauce racing stripes on top, it is now ready to make it’s way to our 600°F brick oven where it bakes away. Out of the oven it comes, piping hot. We carefully remove the pan and marvel at the delicious caramelized cheese that has melted down the interior walls of the pan forming the glorious crust before cutting, boxing and saying goodbye.
Detroit style pizza at HiWay is available Thursdays ONLY exclusively at our WEST location via the HiWay NOW online ordering platform.
Only sixteen (16) Detroit Style Pizzas will be made available to order each and every Thursday (1 per person please). Once they are sold out, Detroit style pizzas are gone until following Thursday. We suggest you place your order early in the morning and select “SCHEDULE FOR LATER” by filling in the time in which you wish to pick it up later on in the day. We will have it ready for you during your selected time. You should arrive to pick-up your order contact free at that time, just give us a call when you arrive and we’ll bring it out to the curbside drop-off station.
